How does this moth know it is actually sitting on a beige surface (here: the inner side of the window blind) that somehow matches its camouflage?
I think it doesn’t actually know.

While I commend your efforts to have a web presence surely kenyans have learnt in our high schools about the wonders of experiments and investigation. By posing a question and making no effort to definitively and scientifically answer it you are perpetuating the village mentality of lack of seriousness and respect for your fellow kenyans. If its too much trouble finding the scientific name of the moth and what is scientifically known about its behavior and characteristics please respect those kenyans committed to zoology and others and let them handle the issue while you focus your efforts on mastering your area of expertise and adding value to kenyans and others.
Hey Oluoch, I am sorry if I hit your intellect with this rhetorical question.
Sometimes there’s much more to a naive question then what probably meets the eyes in the first place.
Besides, I searched for the scientific name of this moth for at least 30 mins on a broadband internet connection before giving up and chosing just “moth” because it actually doesn’t make a difference.
“please respect those kenyans committed to zoology and others and let them handle the issue while you focus your efforts on mastering your area of expertise and adding value to kenyans and others.”
So what’s your area of expertise?
“you are perpetuating the village mentality of lack of seriousness and respect for your fellow kenyans”
“The village mentality” is what exiled Kenyans in the US are probably calling it and I could go on and construct this image of an exiled Kenyan who is torn between the busy and demanding US world and expectations from home, surfing the Kenyan blogosphere, searching for an identity somewhere along the way.
For anything else, I suggest you read my “About”-page to realize that I never got to enjoy 8-4-4 and that I – while having similar minority complexes – am not too far away from my actual area of expertise (which is Bubudiuism) by posing such a question that obviously insults those that are dealing with Zoology on a more professional basis.
Mr Oluoch in defense to JKE entry ( not that he needs my defense:-) I do not think in any way he meant to “insult’ anyone’s intelligence esp those whose career are in the area of Zoology.
I think JKE was only trying to potray this as a piece of art and posed a question to the viewer/reader to draw their own conclusion. Knowing JKE, if this was in the area of water engineering or his nerd self ‘”tech gadgets” he would have gone all the way to expound on such a topic and Lord knows he has on so many occassions if you have ever perused through his blog.
All the same, I think it is a bit shallow on your end to attack his entry as disrepecting Kenyans. Certainly he is not and I think you Mr. Olouch are the one direspecting him by alluding to things he never intended in his entry.
@ Jke tuko pamoja!:-)
es ist schon sehr merkwuerdig wie eine einzige Motte, solche “Meinungsauesserungen” hervorbringt.
Dem einen kommt eine unschuldige Motte als Gelegenheit, etwas in sein Onlinetagebuch zu schreiben.
Was wiederum zu verbalen Tiefschlaegen anderer fuehrt.
