…ist der Webmailer von 1&1 einfach nur sch…. schlecht. Und ja, obwohl die Einstiegsseiten von der United Internet AG fast gleich sind.
Wieso kann es nicht einen genialen Webmailer geben, der alles unterstützt, super schlank ist und damit auch im allerletzten Kaff der Welt über eine ätzend lahme Inetverbindung funktioniert?
Gmail ist nett, aber bietet leider keinen POP3 Sammeldienst wie z.B. Web.de an. Gmail läuft auch nicht über lahme Modemverbindungen (vor allem nicht die tollen Ajax Anwendungen). Web.de ist gut, aber leider nur auf Deutsch verfügbar sowie kostenpflichtig bei richtigem Gebrauch. GMX find ich von der Adresse her blöd, und die 1&1 Webmailer sind so etwas von unbrauchbar, dass man einfach nur schreien möchte. Waaaaaah! Ok.
Gmail für die Domain einrichten? Ginge. Aber dann läuft es wieder nicht richtig rund wenn die Verbindung mal nicht so optimal ist. Und SquirrelMail als eigener Webmailer ist in der Praxis SO etwas von bescheuert…
Zur Zeit lasse ich alle meine email Konten bei web.de im POP3 Sammeldienst zusammentrudeln, es wird dort aussortiert und dann via POP3 heruntergeladen.
Aber so optimal ist das nicht. Wie macht Ihr das?

I use 1&1 as well and have exactly the same problem. I ended up setting up my account to forward all my mail to netscape to avoid having to deal with the extra-retarded 1&1 webmail interface.
Then, last month, I realized that 1&1 does not allow POP access. My email is stuck with them. What a retarded policy!!!
I think that I am finally getting to a solution though. I found about something called Google Apps/Services for companies last month: basically, you get your domain, point your MX and CX records to google and you can read your mail and use google apps in the gmail domain. I got an invitation to try it out but I have not had the chance to test it yet. It seems like this might work – how cool would it be if I can read my email at say webmail.ntwiga.net using the gmail interface!!! Very very cool!

Yes, exactly, we share the same problem. POP3 is possible with 1&1 Germany though. It isn’t in North America?
As for Google Apps on uhuru.de – i tried that. It’s nice! But there’s one problem, and that is: Google Mail /Apps doesn’t work on very slow connections – we had tremendous problems using Gmail in Embu. The WRMA office was using a winnet.co.ke webmailer – just an ordinary squirrel mail – and i registered a gmail address for them, but opening gmail via winnet.co.ke was such a pain although no blocked ports/sites/etc.
Gmail still is very close to the ultimate webmailer interface…*sigh*…
Sorry, I meant to say Netscape: I was forwarding my 1&1 mail to Netscape and when it got there, it was stuck forever.

So far, I got around of changing my mail address and provider, because I am a bit worry to loose some contacts. Of course I can tell it everybody, but still there is a possibility that I forget someone. ;-)

Jaein, das ist nicht ganz richtig. Gmail bietet einen pop3 Sammeldienst an, dieser ist aber nur in der englischen Spracheinstellung unter Settings/Accounts sichtbar.
Gmail lässt sich ganz einfach umstellen, am Ende der Seite findet man “Google Mail view: standard with chat | standard without chat | basic HTML”.
Basic HTML is what you might want. Ich habe keine aktuellen EAK Anwendererfahrungen, aber mE lädt Gmail um ein vielfaches schneller als Web.de / Gmx.de voller Werbebanner.
IMHO ist Web.de ein Dreck, jedenfalls wenn ich einfach einen Webmailer möchte. Den ganzen anderen Schnick-Schnack verwende ich eh nicht.
Gmx ist noch grottiger als Web.de, vorallem nervt die Werbung extrem. Und man kann einfach nicht damit arbeiten. Den 1&1 Webmailer kenne ich nicht, zum Glück…
Ich verwende nur GMail & Google Apps zur Zeit. Warum willst du überhaupt pop3 Sammeln? Bei Bedarf konnte ich bisher einfach alle an meinen Gmail Account weiterleiten, was spricht da dagegen?
